Exhaust System Service Video

The exhaust system routes combustion gases from the engine out the back of the vehicle while reducing noise and controlling emissions. It ties together the manifold, oxygen sensors, catalytic converter, muffler, and the pipes and hangers that hold everything under the chassis.

This video walks through how each section of the exhaust system works. It follows the gases from the manifold at the head to the muffler dampening pressure pulses at the tailpipe. In normal operation, the whole assembly stays sealed so sensors read accurate data and the cabin stays quiet.

Wear tends to show up as sound and smell before anything else. A deeper rumble, a ticking under load, a rattle over bumps, or the smell of exhaust near the cabin usually points to trouble. The cause is often a failed gasket, a cracked flex pipe, a rusted-through section, or a broken hanger letting the system sag.

Moses Lake’s freeze-thaw cycles and road treatments corrode pipe seams and hanger brackets from the outside in. That wears an exhaust system out faster than milder climates would. An inspection puts the vehicle on a lift, checks each joint and mount, listens for leaks while the engine is running, and pressure-tests where needed.

When testing points to a leak or a failed section, our exhaust system repair service covers the full scope of what that work involves. Drivers around Ephrata and Quincy bring their vehicles to Affordable Automotive Services for exhaust work.
