AC Compressor Service Video
The AC compressor is the pump that drives refrigerant through your vehicle's air conditioning system. Powered by a belt off the engine, it pressurizes the refrigerant so heat can be pulled out of the cabin and released through the condenser.
This video walks through where the compressor sits on the engine and how the clutch engages when you turn the AC on. It also shows what the component looks like once wear sets in. In normal operation the clutch cycles on and off, pulling the pulley against the compressor shaft. That drives the pistons or scroll, moving refrigerant through the system.
A failing compressor usually gives warning signs before the AC quits entirely. A rattling or grinding noise with the AC engaged points to worn internal bearings. Weak cold air, oily residue around the compressor, or a clutch that will not engage all point to a failing unit.
An inspection checks system pressures, listens for bearing noise, verifies clutch engagement, and looks for refrigerant leaks at the shaft seal and fittings. When the testing points to the compressor itself, our cooling, AC, and heating system repair service handles the full diagnosis and replacement.
Few climates test an AC compressor the way Moses Lake summers do. Long stretches of high ambient heat force the clutch to cycle constantly, accelerating wear on the bearings and shaft seal.
If your AC is noisy or no longer cooling, call Affordable Automotive Services at (509) 764-0000. You can also visit your local mechanic in Grant County, WA to book an inspection.
