Brake Caliper Service Video
The brake caliper is the clamp that squeezes the brake pads against the rotor to slow your vehicle. Hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder pushes one or more pistons inside the caliper, and that force is what actually stops the wheel from turning.
This video walks through where the caliper sits over the rotor and how the piston, seals, and slide pins work together every time you press the pedal. In normal operation, the piston extends to apply the pads, then retracts slightly when you release the pedal so the pads sit just off the rotor.
A failing caliper usually shows itself through uneven behavior. A vehicle that pulls to one side during braking or a wheel that feels hotter than the others after driving can indicate brake problems. Persistent squealing noises may also signal an issue that needs attention. Each often traces back to a piston or slide pin that is no longer moving freely.
Grant County’s dust and grit work into the caliper slide pins and dry out the boots. That lets a pin seize and hold the pad against the rotor even after you lift off the pedal. An inspection checks piston movement, pin travel, boot condition, and looks for fluid weeping past the seal.
When a caliper is the confirmed problem, our brake repair and safety inspection service covers the full replacement scope. Drivers from Moses Lake and Ephrata bring their vehicles to Affordable Automotive Services for brake work.
If you notice a pull, a hot wheel, or a dragging feel, call (509) 764-0000 or visit the best auto repair in Moses Lake to have the calipers inspected.
