Brake Pads Service Video

Brake pads are the friction material that clamps against the rotors when you press the pedal. That friction converts the car’s motion into heat and slows the wheels. Each pad rides on a caliper piston and wears down a little with every stop.

This video walks through where the pads sit inside the caliper and how the piston squeezes them against the rotor. It also shows what a worn set looks like once the friction material has thinned. In normal driving, the pads self-adjust as they wear and stay quiet through their service life.

Worn pads usually give warning before they fail. A high-pitched squeal from the wear indicator, a gritty grinding when you brake, or a longer pedal travel all point to friction material running out.

Long stretches on I-90 and Highway 17 keep pads at sustained highway temperatures. That heat glazes the friction surface and shortens pad life faster than short-trip driving does. An inspection at Affordable Automotive Services in Moses Lake measures pad thickness, checks rotor runout, and looks at the caliper slides for binding.

When the measurements confirm the pads are due, our brake pad replacement service covers the full process and what it includes. Drivers from Ephrata and Quincy bring their vehicles to us for brake work.

If you hear a squeal or feel a longer pedal, call (509) 764-0000. You can also visit your local mechanic in Grant County, WA to have the pads inspected.
